The University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is one of Europe’s largest and most modern hospitals, hosting 81 clinics and institutes across diverse medical disciplines. Handling over 330,000 patients annually and employing 2,000 doctors and scientists, the facility’s complex operations demand a robust, cutting-edge security and access control system.
UKE faced a unique challenge: securing more than 3,500 doors and managing access rights for over 17,000 staff members, all while complying with stringent data protection laws and ensuring seamless 24/7 operations.
The Solution
Primion developed and implemented a sophisticated, tailored access management system for UKE. Key components of the solution include:
- Mechatronic Access Control: More than 3,500 doors across the campus are secured with state-of-the-art mechatronic components, including electronic cylinders and door terminals, ensuring comprehensive security.
- Master Readers for Updates: Staff access cards are updated seamlessly at designated master readers located at key entry points, where employees can quickly refresh their access rights by presenting their cards. This process ensures secure, efficient access management tailored to dynamic hospital needs.
- Customised Authorisation System: A robust authorisation framework tailored to hospital operations ensures secure access to sensitive areas, with distinct day and night schedules and real-time online monitoring.
- Secure Data Integration: A customised interface between UKE’s SAP HR system and Primion’s platform ensures anonymised data transfer, fully compliant with GDPR and other applicable data protection regulations.
- LEGIC advant® RFID Technology: State of the art RFID technology integrated into staff ID cards provides high-security access capabilities across the facility.
