Why traditional role- and badge-based concepts are reaching their limits and how modern attribute-based approaches meet the requirements of today’s airport operations.

Stetten am kalten Markt, 20.10.2026 – Airports are among the most demanding security environments of all. A wide range of service providers, crews and systems must work together seamlessly within very tight timeframes. At GATE FUTURE 2026 in Hamburg on 21 October, Primion will demonstrate how modern access control concepts can support these dynamic processes.

The workshop “From Badge Silos to a Policy Driven Access Model – When Access Thinks Like a Flight Schedule” focuses on the turnaround of a Boeing 737. While crew changes, cleaning, catering, refuelling and ground handling take place in parallel, the right people must be granted access to the required areas at the right time.

Participants will learn from Alexander Friesen, CTO of Primion, how Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) and edge technologies can help make access decisions based on current contextual information. What matters is not only who requires access, but also when, where and for what reason. Primion will also demonstrate how centralised policies, transparent decision-making processes and local decision-making capabilities can enhance security while accelerating operations. Even if central systems fail, security-critical processes remain operational.

The workshop is aimed at airport security managers and those responsible for security and digitalisation. In addition to technological insights, participants will receive specific recommendations for advancing their access strategy.
